IRA Charitable Rollover Changes Announced 2015

I wanted to make you aware of a significant potential opportunity for members of our community to ensure the future of Jewish Las Vegas.  We expect Congress and President Obama to act within the next few days to make the IRA Charitable Rollover permanent.  Eligible donors who have not already made qualified distributions this year may still have time to do so, but only if they act quickly.

Both the House and Senate will vote this week on legislation that makes the IRA charitable rollover retroactive from January 1, 2015, and permanent going forward. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law.  If you are age 70 ½ or older, you may transfer up to $100,000 this year directly from your  individual retirement accounts to qualified public charities, such as The Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, and double your impact by transferring up to $100,000 again beginning in January 2016.

Otherwise taxable amounts rolled over are free from federal income tax and count toward your required minimum distribution. You may not make direct distributions to donor advised funds, supporting organizations or split-interest trusts or in exchange for gift annuities.

Do not delay! Rollovers for 2015 must be completed by December 31. If you are eligible, it is a wonderful opportunity for you to use your IRA to accomplish your philanthropic goals.

We encourage you to use these funds to:

*Make a gift to the Annual Campaign or create an endowment to perpetuate your Annual Campaign gifts.

*Make a lifetime gift to community organizations through The Jewish Federaion.

*Establish an endowment fund to support your favorite program or institution.
