JewEL August 2015 Programming

Jewish Emerging Leaders (JewEL) kicked off the 2016 Campaign year with some incredible programs in August! In addition to the reoccurring monthly programs of First Mondays Yoga and Fourth Fridays Lunch with Las Vegas Senior Lifeline clients, JewEL hosted their annual JewEL at the Pool Summer Pool Party, volunteered with Boys Town, and welcomed JewEL members back at the largest Happy Hour to date. JewEL’s August programming engaged over 250 young Jewish adults in the community, including more than 50 brand new members. “JewEL’s welcome back programs were fun and meaningful,” noted Sarah Steinberg, JewEL Board Chair. “We were excited to welcome new JewEL members and continue hosting meaningful and fun events! The JewEL Board has worked hard over the summer to develop a robust and dynamic strategic plan for the upcoming year and we are so excited for the best year yet!”

JewEL hosted their 3rd annual JewEL at the Pool Summer Pool party on August 2nd at the Downtown GRAND rooftop pool. More than 100 young Jewish adults attended the fun summer event, which is more than double the attendance from last year. “JewEL’s summer pool party is always a great way to welcome people back and connect with people in a fun and social atmosphere,” noted Dr. Azin Azma, JewEL Vice Chair. “We were thrilled to see so many new faces and of course welcome back our friends.” JewEL had 4 cabanas, a full spread of food, and plenty of drinks for everyone. The hot summer weather was perfect for a cool dip in the beautiful Downtown GRAND pool and a prefect excuse to spend the afternoon with friends in Downtown Las Vegas.

The JewEL board has prioritized incorporating more community service opportunities in their strategic plan for the coming year. The first direct service opportunity JewEL participated in was with Boys Town of Nevada for their annual Back to School Backpack program on August 13th. More than a dozen JewEL members volunteered to help play games, make crafts, serve food, and interact with families in need. “I really enjoyed volunteering with Boys Town,” noted Lauren Klafter, JewEL Board Member and Tikkun Olam Chair. “Not only did JewEL members bring bags full of back to school supplies to donate to the backpack program, but we also had a great time making crafts, playing games, and giving out prizes to the kids.” JewEL plans to continue partnering with Boys Town throughout the year and in years to come to make a difference in lives of children and family in need in our community.

JewEL’s welcome back August Happy Hour was another hit with more than 125 people in attendance, including more than 30 brand new people. JewEL hosted its monthly happy hour at the newly expanded Layla Grill and Hookah Lounge on August 20th from 7-9pm. Attendees enjoyed a complimentary beverage, delicious Israel style appetizers, and complimentary hookah. “This was one of the best happy hours yet,” noted Jen Specter, JewEL Chair. “The food and drinks were delicious, the venue was perfect, and it was a great opportunity to see my friends and meet new people. We had over 30 people attend this Happy Hour that had never been to a JewEL event before. It was the perfect welcome back event!” JewEL’s monthly happy hours continue to attract over 100 attendees, including many new young Jewish professionals each month. “Each month our Happy Hours continue to grow and attract more young Jewish adults,” noted Steinberg. “And after each one, everyone is already looking forward to next months!”
